Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission holds its 2019 Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 25 at 5 pm featuring Katie Spencer-White, Executive Director of the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council as the guest speaker.
Boothbay Region Community Resource Council is a collaborative community approach to developing sustainable solutions to poverty, hunger and abuse. This has evolved over many years into an umbrella and direct service organization, and Ms. Spencer-White became the first Executive Director of BRCRC a little over a year ago. Her talk, “Unbroken: Poverty and Resilience on the Boothbay Peninsula," will address the conditions of poverty in our communities, current challenges and collaborative solutions, and future opportunities.
The LCRPC provides a wide range of economic development and planning assistance to towns, businesses, and non-profits to promote sustainable economic growth and community development in Lincoln County. During the meeting, LCRPC will present highlights of the past year and elect officers and executive committee members.
Originally from the West Coast (a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz), Ms. Spencer-White began her career as a high school social studies teacher, moving east to continue teaching and graduate work at UVA's Curry School of Education. She and her family moved to England, where she became a lawyer specializing in higher education and governance and served as executive director for a children and families organization. Returning to the U.S. in 2014, Katie became chief partnership officer for Charlottesville, Virginia’s branch of Habitat for Humanity.
BRCRC has two Community Navigators on staff, providing free and confidential services related to healthy living, food security, career counseling fuel and heat, housing counseling and foreclosure prevention, and volunteer service opportunities. They also have an addiction counselor and coordinate many other community outreach activities.
The Annual Meeting, open to the public, will be held at the 1812 Farm in Bristol. Refreshments include hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. To register, please call 882-5983 or register online www.lcprc.org.
